These are tanned white-tailed, or whitetail, deer skins. They have a reddish-brown coat in the spring and summer that turns to gray-brown in the fall and winter. This deer has a distinctive white underside to its tail.

Please note that deer have a hollow hair and are not ideal for rugs. If you walk on them or let a large dog sit on them, the hair will break and shed over time. They are ideal for wall mountings, floor displays that are not walked on, etc.

They average around 50" long and 25" wide down the middle. Each skin weighs approximately 2.5 lbs or 1.13 kg.

Measurements are derived in the following way:

    • The length is measured down the middle of the hide, not including tails.
    • The top width is the smallest part under the arms or front legs.
    • The middle width is the smallest part across the center.
    • The bottom width is from hind leg to hind leg.

White tail deer are not endangered and are not subject to CITES.

A U.S. Fish & Wildlife export permit is required for all shipments outside the U.S.

The white tail deer hides are sorted into #1, #2 and #3 grades.

#1 grade hides may have holes located at the sides of the hides.

#2 grade hides have holes located at or near the center of the hides.

#3 grade hides are of lower quality, ideal for fly-tying and crafts.
