This rug is made of a mosaic of various tanned springbok and other animal fur pieces. It has a soft cushiony backing with three visible crease lines running across it. This rug will make a great conversation piece!Springbok are NOT endangered and are very common in southern Africa. They are often hunted for food. In fact, on my trips to South Africa I usually enjoy springbok steaks at a variety of restaurants. Not for export.

The turbo shell operculum comes from the Turbo imperialis sea snail. The operculum is a corneous or calcareous structure like a trapdoor which is used to close the aperture of the shell when the soft parts of the snail are retracted. Opercula may be ground up and used to make incense and perfumes or as an organic "gemstone" in rings, bracelets, amulets, and other decorative ornaments.The opercula measure 1.5" to 2" long and weigh between 21 to 36 grams (0.7 to 1.2 oz.).

This is a set of six carved wood coasters that were hand-carved in the townships of South Africa.   The coasters are 3" in diameter and comes in a lovely hand-carved container.  The elephant on the container has its trunk pointed downwards but has an upward pointing trunk on the coasters.  The wood is a good coloring throughout.
