Tibet lamb have soft curly hair. The short hair skins have a hair length of approximately 1.5" to 2" long, but can also go up to 4" long on some skins. The whole skins are ideal as rugs or for use by doll makers because the hair will fall in a consistent manner. The backs of the skins are also clean and can be used to draw or paint on.
You are welcome to check out our large selection of
Tibet lamb plates. We offer more than 50 colors! The plates are made by piecing together pieces of Tibet lamb skins, whereas whole skins are full skins.
Tibet lamb are not an endangered species. The skins are a by-product of the food industry - the animals are not killed just for their hides.
Since these are whole skins, the size and shape of each skin is not consistent and does vary. The measurements provided below are general guidelines and are not definitive. If you require a certain useable size, please let us know before you order.
The short hair dyed black skins range in size from 25" to 28" long and 12" to 16" wide, measured down the middle of the skin. Hair length is approximately 1.5" to 2" long. One skin is measured to be 31" long and 12.5" wide across the middle, weighing 0.86 lbs.
Do not dry clean
Do not dry clean the the Tibet lamb blanket as the dry cleaning process will remove the natural oils from the lamb skin. For Washing Instructions see Eucalan™ Wool Wash.
A Note On Odor
Please note that the dyed lamb blanket do have a chemical odor as a result of
being dyed. They may also have a mothball odor as well because we have
to prevent bugs from getting into the lamb skin. You can reduce this odor by
either airing the rug out or by tumbling the lamb blanket in a dryer with a dryer
sheet on very low heat for no more than five minutes. Any more than this
will shrink the lamb skin and you will no longer have the option to
return them if unsatisfied. If you're worried that the lamb skin may leave an odor in your dryer, we suggest you use a public laundromat.
