These 1" abalone shell buttons are made from Mexican green abalone shells. The shells are a by-product of the food industry. When exported from the USA, Mexican abalone shells are subject to USFWS export processing fees at overseas rates, not at NAFTA rates as one would think. Made in China from Mexican shells.
