These are round rawhide drums come with a drum stick. The rawhide is either cow or goat and is stretched across a wooden frame. The drum is 10" diameter, 2.5" to 3.25" wide, and weighs 7.2 oz (206 grams).

These drums are partially made by the Tarahumara people. Also known as the Raramuri, they are an indigenous group living in the Chihuahua state in Mexico, who are renowned as long distance runners. Most of the Tarahumara still practice a traditional lifestyle, and that includes making rawhide drums. They make the frames for the drums, which other people in the same region then put together.

Cows and goats are not an endangered species and are not subject to CITES or USFWS controls.
