This abalone shell button was made from one single Mexican green abalone shell. This button has no holes. The buttons are made from shells that are a by-product of the food industry. A USFWS export permit is required for all shipments outside of the United States. Made in the USA using shells from Mexico.

The unpolished broken Mexican green abalone shell pieces are sold by the pound. The pieces come in assorted sizes for crafts or inlay. Please note that the photos above show a half-pound of shell (not one pound) and you will get an assortment similar to that pictured, but not the exact lot shown.
