These are decorative, hair-on goatskins from Peru. The goatskins have been chrome-tanned and come in assorted colors, patterns, and shapes. All sizes are usually in stock.

Compared to the U.S. goatskins the hide side of the U.S. goatskins are softer than the Peruvian goatskins. The U.S. goatskins are also heavier than the Peruvian ones.

    Size Square Feet
    Small 2 to 4
    Medium 4 to 6
    Large 6 to 8
    Extra Large 9+

Please note that the small skins are very small. These would be ideal as table coverings for end tables or a similar use, but are not big enough for use as rugs.

We measured five random large goatskins and these were the measurements.

Large Length Neck to Tail Width at Shoulders Width at Middle Width at Back Legs
    Hide 1 37.5" 30.0" 32.0" 26.5"
    Hide 2 35.25" 29.75" 28.75" 30.0"
    Hide 3 38.5" 26.0" 29.0" 30.5"
    Hide 4 30.0" 27.75" 28.0" 30.75"
    Hide 5 38.0" 31.75" 29.0" 31.25"

Measurements for our gallery hides are derived in the following way unless otherwise specified:

    • The length is measured down the middle of the hide, not including tails.
    • The top width is the smallest part under the arms or front legs.
    • The middle width is the smallest part across the center.
    • The bottom width is from hind leg to hind leg.

The goatskins weigh about one pound each.

Goatskins can be used in a variety of ways. One customer sent us a picture of the bagpipes he refinished using one of our large goatskins.

The goatskins we offer are a by-product of the food industry. These skins are not subject to USFWS export controls or to CITES. They are NOT endangered.

To remove any dirt, brush along the nap (in the direction of the hair, not backwards) using a bristle comb or horse brush. To clean spills or extra dirty areas, use a very small amount of shampoo on a damp sponge. Sponge along the nap repeatedly. Rinse the sponge to remove the shampoo and dirt and repeat until the hide is cleaned. Dry using a towel running along the nap. Never put a goatskin in the washing machine or get it thoroughly soaked.

We also offer a lanolin-based cleaner called Eucalan.
