The skins we offer come from lambs that did not survive the harsh spring weather. These casualties of nature are processed in New Zealand to produce one of the world’s softest and lightest double-face leathers. These are natural creamy white Grade 2 Icelandic sheepskins. The lengths, given above, are measured on the wool side. The hair is a little matted compared to the Grade 1 sheepskins, e.g. your fingers may get caught when you run your hand through some parts of the hair. They are not a clean white color and may have some areas of discoloration. The hair length is approximately 4" to 6" with the shortest hair along the spine. The Hungarian lamb skin plates are made of some of the nicest lambskins we have seen anywhere. Pieces of creamy natural white skins are sewn together into a rectangular plate. The plates are plush and very soft.The plates measure approximately 55" by 23.5" (140 cm by 60 cm) on the hide side. Sizes may vary so some may be slightly larger or smaller. Imported from Hungary, our Tsigai sheepskins are of excellent quality. Also known as Cigája (pronounced Cig-Ah-Ya), Zombori sheep, Oláh sheep, or berke, these sheepskins are quite soft with long, dense hair and a supple hide.
